Introduction

Appetite for Insanity is the 3rd in the Payton trilogy, following Treacherous Toys and Monster Balls.

It is also one of the four comics the preludes Conquests of the Dungeon Masters.

Trivia

The primary cover draws influence from the cover or Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind album.

The 2nd cover is a homage to the cover for Nightmare on Elm Street 3.

I never really like how mine came out so I have fixed it up for this commentary (see below).

There are many other nods to NoES 3 including a worm monster.

Colby has dreams / delusions of being a movie star much like Jennifer of NoES 3.

He also mentions a movie "Dream Crusaders" -- a title similar to NoE 3's subtitle "Dream Warriors".

Kincaid (NoES 3) and Lincoln sing a similar song while in the quiet room.

Billy using the water cooler to break the window and escape is a reference to Will Sampson doing something similar in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

The original first 5 pages of the comic were cut.

There was some nonsense about imps summoning the worm monster.

I decided the intro scene just didn't work for several reasons and cut it from the comic.

You can still get these 5 pages by finding Blackmoon the tuxedo cat.

Other than an establishing exterior shot, the entire comic takes place indoors in an effort

 to help establish a feeling of being trapped.  We don't see Billy outside until Dungeon Masters.

The color scheme uses predominantly white, grays, and blues to help instill a sense of cold.

Billy's transfer into Conquests of the Dungeon Masters was planned from the start.

All four were, in fact (Billy, Oliver, Wilson, and Joel).

I still think the primary cover is good.

However, I never liked the 2nd cover, so I've remade it with better stylization.

Two versions of the 2nd cover:  2013 and 2018.
