Trivia
I'm aware that some people who regularly buy my comics speak little to no English
and I wondered what the experience was like for them -- could they tell what is happening
in a story purely by the visuals?
That thought is what inspired me to make Jungle Law entirely in a fictional language --
put all readers on the same level and challenge myself to tell a story without English.
Effort went into the fictional language so that it makes some sense and isn't just a word-for-word
switch out of English which wouldn't be realistic. Some of the most commonly used words are:
Te = me, I, my
Te te = us, our, we
Ilo = you
Ilo ilo = you (plural)
Yek = yes, affirmative
Nep = no, negative
The magic stone, called The Chyatlos, was inspired by the Loc-Nar from Heavy Metal.
In both cases, the stone / orb are objects of power which seemingly have a consciousness of their own.
Sometime after the events seen in Jungle Law, The Chyatlos was lost for thousands of years later
until it was discovered by Henry and Marshall in Terror of the Lost Temple.
It's not stated clearly in either comic he's in, so an explanation on Leyko:
Leyko sacrifices Lann to the "Magic Rock" and the Chyatlos would have kept his soul.
Pooka kills Leyko and cuts out his heart. Amused by the violence, The Chyatlos restores Lann's life
and Leyko's soul is taken, instead.
Leyko's soul was trapped in The Chyatlos for thousands of years until Henry and Marshall unwittingly freed him.
Leyko sacrifices Henry and The Chyatlos, pleased, restores Leyko to life.
The ape-like creature at the end may seem random and out of nowhere but that was intentional to
show the savagery and cruelty within the jungle -- a chance encounter with extreme consequences.
