Biography

Early Childhood

As far back as he can remember, Datton has been mentored and trained by Sanbert the Paladin.  He was orphaned at a very young age, when his parents were murdered by savage creatures.  Then, alone and scared, he was taken under the wing of his adoptive father.  The boy was trained in both the art of swordplay and chivalry, and he was granted the title of “Apprentice Paladin” by age 10.

Evil in the Woods

(told in "Datton the Defender")

As his friends began to vanish in the Everdark Forest, Datton was the one who came to their aid.  He discovered the source of evil, defeated it, and saved the forest and his friends.

The Impaler

(told in "Lad the Impaler")

One day, when the lad was about 12 years old, a knock came to his door.  There stood a messenger who begged Sanbert to help his village, Trovska, from vampire known as “Lad the Impaler”.  Sanbert could not, as he was needed elsewhere at the time.  Despite his mentor telling him to not to get involved, as he was too young and inexperienced, Datton sneaked out that night and traveled to the village to help the people.

It was during his battle with Anthony the Impaler and his monster squad, that Datton first met Taylor.  This first meeting involved nothing less than a fight, and in the end Datton spared Taylor’s life.  Although everyone doubted him, the young paladin ended up defeating Anthony, with luck, courage, and some well-placed friends.

To Cure a Friend

(told in "Mouth of the Beholder")

Taylor captured Datton and planned on cooking him to prove how tough of a monster he could be.  However, Datton detected the gator boy's true nature to be good and, instead befriending Taylor, and promised to escort him to the great city of Polywerp where surely a cure for his mutation could be found.

The pair met Tuatha and JayKey, and together the four met with Polywerp's leader, Justice.  The beholder could not cure Taylor but, instead, placed an illusion upon the cursed lad, giving him the appearance of his humanity.

Justice, however, decided that Datton would make a fine pawn for an assassination mission to further his political power.  Before the hypnotized Datton could carry out the foul deed, his three friends came to his rescue.  Upon slaying the foul Justice, Taylor's illusion spell faded, and his gator features became visible again.

Returning Home

(told in "Lad of the Dead")

After his grand adventures, Datton, with Taylor in tow, decided to finally return home to see Sanbert, his trainer and adoptive father.  To the young paladin's surprise, his mentor was gone, leaving only a strange note in which Sanbert wrote about a tortured angel that he needed to rescue.

Datton and Taylor went to Trovska to track down Sanbert, but instead the pair were kidnapped by the reborn Anthony and his new monstrous minions.  This time, the young vampire was aided by an ancient and evil artifact known as the Tome of the Dead, which allowed Anthony to raise the deceased to do his will.

Ultimately, Datton managed to defeated Anthony and claimed the Tome of the Dead.

Alone in the Desert

(told in "Desert Dreams")

Now alone, Datton traveled far east, into the great desert in search of Sanbert and the mysterious angel held captive by a wicked (and likely insane) man who claimed to be the Dajjal.

Though initially captured and forced to fight in the Lion's Den Arena, Datton eventually managed to escape with the aid of Treyn and Artix.

Together, these new friends confronted the dread lord who held the angel captive.  Artix and Treyn slew the wicked three-headed beast as Datton battled the alleged Dajjal.  Upon releasing Kelvin, the angel merged with Datton, entering his body and giving him new strength.  With the aid of Kelvin, Datton defeated the dread lord and rescued his mentor.

The Crusade

(told in "No Rest for the Righteous")

With the dread lord defeated, Sanbert rescued, and Kelvin saved and within him, Datton returned to Trovska only to learn that his friend, Taylor, had been arrested simply for being a "monster" by Barnoles of Polywerp.

Datton travelled to Polywerp to speak with Lord Alderich, the newly-elected leader of the great city, and head of the Paladin Order.  However, Datton quickly learned that Alderich had no interest in helping Datton or any of his friends.  In fact, it lord of Polywerp wanted Datton and his friends all dead.  Aided by the magic of JayKey, Datton escaped from Alderich.

Though free and alive, Datton and JayKey were outlaws and were hunted by the Polywerp Guardians.  The duo went underground and were helped by Flerp.

Datton led a small group of friends to the north were it was rumored a secret slave camp existed.  From there, he hoped to gain more information about the whereabouts of Taylor.
